    Lauren Graham Cunningham

  • Artist's Statement

A body of work representative of the individual as shape-shifter, Cunningham's paintings explore the paradoxical idea of masks serving to reveal fundamental human impulses. Here are people who cover (with sex, martinis, furs, furrowed brows) and, in doing so, betray their base desires for relief from emptiness.

In impressions sometimes confrontational, often satirical, Cunningham's work is an astute, enacting commentary on the question of a modern construction of identity.

A South Carolina native, Lauren Graham Cunningham is a self-taught artist whose work has appeared in print and periodicals, the Firenze Bienale, and in exhibits across the Southeast. She lives and works in Mount Dora, Florida.
